It is one of the most popular walks in the andes. The route was used as a highway not only by Tiwanaku but also by early Aymará, Incas and the Spanish, and it still serves as a mayor route to the humid Yungas over a low pass in the Cordillera Real. As you descend later, the country will become increasingly vegetated.
